Changes made following this article can result in configurations being erased or changed which will damage your setup. Understand that you undertake making changes to your configuration at your own risk, and that such changes may damage the machine.
Make sure to backup your existing setup. If you require help after a mistake, CAP will have to erase and setup the standard configuration, and you will be charged additional support fees.
This article assumes that you have your Roland mills setup in VPanel and that SUM3D configured.
This article also covers how to update if you change the Roland mill machine name.
This article does not cover how to setup multiple mills to automatically output.
1. Find your mill name
Check the Roland mill name(s) listed in your VPanel for the one you want SUM3D to output to and start automatically, and make note of the exact name of the mill.
2. Update SUM3D to send files to VPanel Automatically
1. Back-up any settings that you have in SUM3D. Copy the root SUM3D folder to another location (don't move the folder, copy the folder).
Since this is for advance users, we will not give direct instructions on where to find/where to change the settings.
2. In the machine archive, carefully click in the Machine Code for Customization field. The text in this field can accidentally be erased by typing over it/mistyping or incorrect cursor movements. You've been warned. If you make a mistake in the Machine Code for Customization field, you can cancel out the changes by going back to the settings for the machine, but accidental SAVES are irreversible.
A. If the Machine Code for Customization field contains a string like START>"Roland DWX-50" or SEND>"Roland DWX-50," the system is already set up for sending files to the milling machine.
B. If neither string value is present, add
to the end of the text field (do not delete any string that is already there). Change insert_VPanel_printer_name_here to the exact name of the mill listed in VPanel: keep the quotation marks, just change the text within the quotation marks.
We recommend using the SEND command as it ensures that the calculation is successful before starting the machine. (START will start the machine immediately, but users will not be able to fix any issues with angle limits or calculations being skipped if there are other issues.)
